Ausable Chasm is one of the tourist attractions at the Adirondacks Mountains in Upstate New York. It is a sandstone gorge located in Keeseville, New York (along US Route 9).
We’ve been traveling beside Lake George and Lake Champlain for about 2 hours already when we found Ausable Chasm.
As soon as we entered their driveway, a very bright orange leafed tree greeted us. Of course, I had to pose right? ha ha
Isn’t that beautiful? That is why we love road tripping in the US during fall. The tree colors are fantastic!
After the photo op, we walked towards the Visitor Center.
Inside the Visitor Center, there are memorabilias on display. There is a restaurant also where you can rest and eat before or after the tour.
OFF TO THE TRAIL:
This is just a short walk. If you plan to just see the falls. It’s so easy, just follow the trail and you’ll see it beside the path walk.
As a photography addict, I had to linger a lot of times, to take photos of the surroundings. I’ve seen bigger waterfalls, but Ausable Chasm , is charming. Plus with fall on its background, I found it so beautiful.
As we walked further, we found Rainbow Falls.
And then the Ausable Watershed.
Ausable Chasm offers tours. You’ll find more details here –
There are so many things to do, for those who plan on camping or staying overnight. But since we had to proceed to Montreal, we had to leave after a few hours.
On our way back, we found their parked Tour Bus. I guess, the season has ended. It was so cold when we were there, so I think being in a river on a windy day wouldn’t be fun. I know I wouldn’t touch the water that day. lol
Back on the road, a beautiful view of the falls just unfold before everyone who dared to cross the bridge. I found the gorge below me so deep , I felt my legs buckle. I told you before that I have a fear of heights. So that didn’t do well with me….
Got rewarded with this for trying…. 🙂
John took the photo below. I couldn’t look that far down. Gee, felt like my feet will buckle under me.
Ausable Chasm was a beauty to behold. If you like adventure, they have white water rafting and a lot of other activities during summer.
You know, New York City is nice. But if you prefer to be on the mountains, the Adirondacks is the place to be. There are so many options to choose from. Either, Lake George, Lake Champlain or the Lake Placid area, you won’t go wrong. The place is so beautiful , you would dream of coming back.
At least, I know I do… dream of going back, that is. 🙂
