The word VISA is exciting right? But the act of getting a VISA is something to be dreadful about, specially for Filipinos. The burden is always on our part to prove that we are coming back to the Philippines. Hence, the frustration and exasperation while we are on the process of getting one.
Let me assure you though that Getting a Canada Visa is painless. Seriously. Infact, my preparation took more time than the actual processing time. I remember submitting my application online at around 4 in the morning. Received a confirmation from CIC in the afternoon. And by 9pm the same day, got a Letter of Approval. Unbelievable right?
So let me share with you how I got my Canada Visa in one day.
* Visit this page – http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/getting-started.asp
Click Determine Your Eligibility. Answer the questionnaires and wait for the result. They will let you know immediately if you are qualified to visit Canada. On top of the Checklist you will see this: VISITING CANADA – Your Personal Checklist. Based on your answers, you may be eligible to come to Canada as a visitor. To apply online, you will need this personal checklist code _____________.
* Print the said Checklist because you will need it upon application.
* The checklist will show you the Step by Step process on what to do. So it is important that you read and understand those before applying online.
NOTE: I chose to convert all the documents below into PDF Files because it was easier to upload.
B) SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS:
b.1. Itinerary, Travel – See how I presented this below:
Date – Arrival at La Guardia Airport, New York City.
– New York City Tour, Shop, Sleep in Hilton Hotel.
In other words, tell them where you are going and what you are planning to do from arrival to departure in details. Your schedule will tell them if you are indeed planning to be a tourist or not.
b.2. Fill up all the Forms.
– IMM5257B , IMM5257E, IMM5484E, IMM5645E
C. PURPOSE OF TRAVEL
– I wrote a Formal Letter addressed to The Honorable Consul, Embassy of Canada, Manila, Philippines.
– I explained that my husband and I am traveling to the United States on such dates and that I would like to see Niagara Falls, both the New York Side and the Canadian side.
– I stated the Booking No. of the hotel we will be staying at while in Canada.
– I also stated that on the 2nd page of my letter is the copy/pasted Airline Tickets as Proof of Travel.
D. PROOF OF ASSETS:
I made a summary of the following:
d.1. Business Assets – our main business is buying and selling of land. So I stated all of our titles. And the business bank accounts, showing the details, duration and balances.
d.1. Personal Assets – any properties not related to the business. Vehicles (model, type and year). Bank Accounts showing the details, duration and balances.
E. PASSPORT , STAMPS AND VISAS:
The CIC website allows only one attachment per requirement. That is why it is a must that you summarize everything. I found it easy with the documents. But with scanned copies, it was kinda difficult.
I scanned everything. Then, cut the scanned copies and pasted them to a new file document. Then converted that document into a PDF file. I don’t know if that makes sense to you. But it worked for me.
F. DIGITAL PHOTO
The checklist has specifications regarding this. Ask for a soft copy from the photo company whom you took the id so it’s easier to download.
G. BUSINESS REGISTRATION (Upload the scanned copy of your Business Permit ).
H. TRAVEL HISTORY – I attached the filled up Form IMM5257B_1 . You will find this form in the CIC website. This form showed where I’ve been in the last 5 years. So it helps if you are a traveler. 🙂
I. FINALIZATION – After uploading all the documents, I reviewed them before paying the fees online using a credit card. At the time of application, the fee was CAD $100.
J. CONFIRMATION THROUGH EMAIL. Wait for the acceptance confirmation through email. After which, you will receive another email stating the result of your application.
Below is the Letter I received:
